This 1978 Porsche 928 is a first year example that was sold new at Bill Stremmel Porsche in Reno, Nevada. It is believed to have had four previous owners in Nevada, California, and most recently Oregon. Equipped with a 4.5-liter V8 and a 5-speed manual transaxle, this sunroof-delete 928 received a comprehensive servicing in 2016 by the previous owner. The selling dealer acquired it in May 2017 and has performed a thorough inspection and service, including a new timing belt, alignment, and more. The car is now being offered in California with records back to 1993, the original owner’s manuals, spare, tool kit, and a clean Oregon title.

A repaint in the original Silbermetallic (936) has been performed and was followed by the application of thin black pin striping. The finish appears shiny in photographs, though a few small chips around the passenger side front wheel are present.

This 928 was not optioned with a sunroof or side rub strips, and the headlamps have been recently replaced with H4 units. Stock 16″ phone dial wheels are shod in Dunlop Direzza DZ102 tires that were installed on May 28, 2016.

Inside, the electronics have been inspected by the seller, and the gauges, lights, windows, mirrors, cruise control, wipers, washers, A/C system, and vacuum door locks are all said to be functioning properly. The odometer indicates 134,426 miles which are deemed accurate by the seller, who notes that there are no cracks on the dash top and instrument pod.

The only reported deviations from stock are an Alpine head unit, as well as front seats recovered in solid black leather rather than the correct striped cloth inserts. The front seats appear to have seen little use since they were refurbished, and the original cloth upholstery on the rear seats is still present.

The 4.5-liter SOHC V8 is paired to a 5-speed manual transaxle and was good for 230 hp and 253 lb-ft of torque when new. Recent maintenance includes a rebuilt transaxle, top end reseal, new vacuum lines, spark plug wires, secondary fuel pump, fuel hoses (front to back), brake master cylinder, and brake pads. In addition, the lower ball joints were replaced with OEM steel joints, and the A/C system was overhauled with a new compressor and charge. The last timing belt service was in August 2017, along with an alignment and inspection.

The car comes with the original spare tire and wheel, factory-supplied belts, tool kit, and a box containing extra light bulbs. A seldom intact cargo cover that snaps to the tool kit remains in place. A smog check has not been performed in three years, though the seller notes that if the car is sold to a California buyer it will have current registration and smog certificate.

The original owner’s manuals come with the car, and the maintenance booklet shows stamps for its first service and oil change on September 12, 1978. A folder of service records containing invoices for work dating back to 1993 is also included.
